Obedience is the Mother of Success

by Kim Clement

Kim ClementWhat an exciting time it is for all of us. September was my birthday month and I was completely overwhelmed by all of your kind words, gifts and love you sent to me. It was wonderful to be home with my family and team to celebrate. I am now in the seventh month of my eighteen-month fast and I'm watching God do wondrous things. I stand before Him three times a day EVERY single day. When I'm home, I go to my garden and we have the most wonderful time together. In my daily moments of devotion and meditation, I've been capturing these thoughts that the Holy Spirit speaks to me. I wanted to share this one with you today.

Always Inquire of the Lord

Recently I've been meditating on obedience and how important it is to God, and how beneficial it is to us. King David was one of the few people in the Bible who obeyed God simply because he "inquired of the Lord" so often. The benefits to us are huge. However, you can't be obedient if you haven't been instructed or commanded, and usually you will not receive instructions if you have not inquired. So the truth of the matter is that if YOU knock at the door, it will be opened, if YOU ask, you shall receive, if YOU give, it shall be given to you, if YOU seek, it shall be found.

Therefore David inquired of the LORD, and He said, "You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees." 2 Samuel 5:23

Notice that most of the time God wants YOU to initiate so that He can reciprocate. God wants to be correspondent with you, but will usually only do so if He is corresponded to. Amazingly, King David is confronted by an enemy, the Philistines, in 2 Samuel 5:23, and would not go up against them before inquiring from God. God told him to go ahead and that the victory would be swift, and it was.

Note, however, that when the same enemy returned a second time to fight David and his men, that David did not go up to fight them without inquiring of the Lord freshly. Once before he had been victorious, and he could've said, "I shall be victorious again; God has already given me an instruction and so I should act upon it again," but he never did, he inquired a second time.

I have learned over the years that each battle requires a fresh revelation/instruction. Never act upon old revelation. God told David not to go up against the Philistines this time, but to wait in a certain place and upon "hearing the sound of marching on the top of Mulberry trees," to advance quickly. David was obedient and won the battle a second time.

Always inquire of the Lord for every venture, battle, relationship, whether in business or personally, and what will be rewarded to you is the fact that your obedience brought about advancement and victory, but also, in the final analysis, pleased God immensely, which is our ultimate goal.

Initiate Correspondence

The Greek Poet Aeschylus wrote, "Obedience is the mother of success and is wedded to safety."

Something I've recently been teaching in regards to giving is that "obedience is better than sacrifice." Obedience to God's voice, when He tells you to do something or give something, is greater than acting on your own sacrificially. That goes along with this thought I've shared with you today. God responds to obedience. He rewards obedience. In order to be obedient, you must be given instruction, and in order to get instruction, you have to inquire.

I encourage you today to inquire of the Lord for any instruction He may have for you. Initiate your "correspondence" with God today. Ask Him where your next steps should be. Ask Him what your next move should be. Initiate your communion with Him and watch how He'll reciprocate. Ask Him today how you can obediently sow into your future and all that He has for you.

I pray that as you hear His voice and obey His instruction to you that you will receive the reward He has set aside for you. Not just any reward but because you are sowing into the prophetic, may you receive the Prophet's reward. Jane and I want to thank you for your love, support and the prayers that we feel from you. I dare you to just watch and see what God is about to do for you, for us. I just wrote a fun new song that we've been doing from The Den and I want to encourage you with this today as well: "Taste and see that the Lord is good!"
